With spring in full swing, it’s time to plan that summer vacation of a lifetime that you and your family will remember for many years to come. To help you in the decision-making process, we’ve picked our favorite things to do with children in San Miguel that we’ll share in this blog, and the next one in a few weeks to come.
Top Things to Do with Your Kids in San Miguel de Allende
The following list is a culmination of our own choices as well as the top picks from GlobeTrotting.com who did an excellent job in choosing some of our favorites as well.
Museo La Esquina
This Mexican toy museum is a super spot for kids of ALL ages that was the initial vision of Angelica Tijerina. Today, the impressive collection of over 1,000 authentic and one-of-a-kind toys are displayed throughout the three-story building. There’s something interesting for everyone with dollhouses, cars and trains, arts and crafts, and so much more! Before you head to the museum, you might want to check out their list of workshops and classes that local artisans also offer throughout the seasons.
Save your appetite, and save some time during your day to slip into Cumpanio – an absolutely delightful and delicious bakery and restaurant in the middle of our historic city. We always recommend the traditional pan dulce which is what the locals enjoy for breakfast. Not to be outdone by their pain du chocolate and conchas – both of which take the top prize for those who love sweet chocolate or vanilla. For those who still hanker for a good-old-fashioned doughnut, you will find a good selection of these goodies there as well. Bon appetite!
El Charco del Ingenio,
Not that calories count when you are on vacation, yet if you want to burn off some of the sugar you just enjoyed at Cumpanio, we suggest a lovely stroll through El Charco del Ingenio which is a Botanical Garden and Nature Reserve located just outside the city centre. Throughout this natural preserve, you’ll find an extensive pathway that leads you to an incredible display of cacti and other native plants. Don’t miss the Conservatory and be sure to take the kids as it’s an educational adventure within itself.
Speaking of your children, bring your camera to capture your kids connecting to nature at the Children’s Garden that is located within El Charco del Ingenio. Here you will find an interactive setting that includes a Solar Observatory, Scent and Touch Labyrinth, and Pollinators Garden.
Park Juarez Playground
No matter where you go in San Miguel, there’s always a park to be found to slow down and enjoy scenery of our honored city. While you put your feet up, let the kids burn off some energy at the playground in Parque Juarez. It’s not real big yet includes what every kid looks for in a playground with slides, swings and things to climb in and around throughout the day.
