In the U.S., many people mistakenly think of Cinco de Mayo as Mexico’s Independence Day. In fact, it’s a relatively minor holiday in Mexico yet in the City of San Miguel de Allende they’ll be ready to celebrate with you! The day commemorates the Battle of Puebla in 1862, when a small cadre of Mexican soldiers routed a French battalion. Businesses will be open as usual, but there will, of course, be fireworks and dancing.
