San Miguel de Allende – Restaurants

A bit pricey for a traditional Mexican restaurant, Bugambilia still manages to pack in diners with regional classics like sopa azteca (spicy tomato soup with tortilla strips), chicken mole, and cream of avocado soup. Don’t miss the house specialty, chiles en nogada frios: marinated poblano chilies filled with chopped beef, pecans, almonds, and dried fruits and topped with cream sauce and a spray of pomegranate seeds. Ambience is provided by a massive bougainvillea plant, the focal point of the dining room.
Cafe La Parroquia
Jesus 11 | San Miguel de Allende | Mexico | Teléfono: (415) 152-3161
In the evening, Cafe de la Parroquia renames itself the Brasserie and is operated by the half-French daughter of the owners. At a little more than the equivalent of ten dollars US, the set meal is an absolute bargain. There is usually a choice of a chicken or pasta main dish, sometimes salmon and the price also includes a nicely prepared salad, a big selection of calorie-filled desserts, a glass of (nondescript) wine or a beer and a coffee. The rolls and salsas are delicious and the service charming and friendly. There are tables in the courtyard and indoors too, where the walls are covered in old French posters.

This popular San Miguel restaurant is very easy to find, just two blocks from the Jardín at the corner of Correo and Corregidora. Just look for the yellow wall with the bright red door. El Pegaso is a popular meeting place for expats in San Miguel, especially for breakfast or morning coffee and pastry.
The Gourmet Food Court at Plaza Primavera
For a quick, delicious and economical option close to Casa Magdalena, we suggest a quick car ride to the second roundabout on the way to town to Plaza Primavera, where a local chef has a great breakfast place with delicious Mexican breakfasts “Cafe de la Manana”. For lunch there is also an option of a top-notch Uruguayan Steak House, a Veracruz style seafood restaurant with the best shrimp cocktails in Central Mexico “La Jarochita” or for a great Spanish tapa, D’Joan has everything typically Spanish your heart and mouth could desire. We especially like to go to D’Joan for his vaccum packed ready to eat meals. They are top quality, local made, paellas, fabadas, etc that are easy to keep on hand for when you decide to enjoy the house and pool and not go out all day long. He also sells an assortment of cold-cuts, cheeses and baked breads… more of a deli!
a 300-year-old stone colonial hacienda. Located in the hacienda’s former stable is the restaurant. With outside dining in good weather, it’s a gorgeous and almost impossibly romantic spot.

Harry’s New Orleans Café & Oyster Bar, San Miguel de Allende, is one of the most visited establishments at this colorful place due to its singular bar and excellent atmosphere that invites residents and tourists to be transported to New Orleans in a suck of the famous Hurricane (tipical beberage) or in a mouthful of the unique Duck Prats (breast and leg with raspberry wine sauce and fried matchstick vegetables).

“Best Brownie on Earth!”, best enjoyed with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and some Mexican caramel “cajeta” drizzled on top. Warm, gooey, perfectly prepared every time. I love this brownie.

Our cuisine is seasonal and ingredient driven, takes advantage of local artisanal products and relies heavily on both old-world techniques and cutting-edge technology. Our menu draws inspiration from Mexicos rich culinary tradition, embraces indigenous flavors and ingredients then presents them in a new context, bridging the gap between tradition and innovation. We have built some wonderful working relationships with many local producers and artisans and continue to search for new sources.

Ole Ole is one of my favorite places to take out-of-town friends — if only to watch their faces when they walk into this homage to the “Fiesta Brava,” the traditional world of bullfighting. The owner is a true bullfight aficionado, a lover of the sport, the art, the dance that is the Fiesta Brava.
